Do you work in the field of sustainable built environments? For example, in sustainable construction, architecture, or urban planning? Join the trade mission to Mainland China and Hong Kong SAR and discover your business opportunities in these rapidly growing markets.
Opportunities for Dutch companies
The sustainable built environment is a large and rapidly growing sector in Mainland China. The country aims to be climate neutral by 2060 and is therefore investing heavily in sustainability. For example, there is increasing attention to reducing CO₂ emissions in the construction industry. There are also ambitious goals for a circular economy.
Mainland China is eager to collaborate on a more sustainable—or even fully—circular construction process. The Netherlands is also engaged in circular construction and reducing CO₂ emissions . This presents opportunities for Dutch companies in Mainland China.
During the mission we will visit 3 cities, each with its own opportunities:
Shanghai: In 2025, the city will embark on a new planning phase. This will explore innovative ways to make buildings more sustainable, including smart designs that will transform the city's future. The city is also exploring the role of technology and new materials in sustainable construction. This presents opportunities for Dutch architects and designers.
Hong Kong SAR: In the Northern Metropolis project, governments, businesses, and knowledge institutions are collaborating on new materials, waste reduction, and the reuse of raw materials. The Netherlands is internationally recognized as a leader in this area. Dutch companies can therefore play a role in this project.
Shenzhen: This city is rapidly developing. Shenzhen is an innovation hub and a partner in Hong Kong SAR's Northern Metropolis plan. There is a high demand for new ideas. Dutch expertise is highly valuable in this area, including in urban renewal. This has already been demonstrated in previous projects.
The strength of Dutch companies aligns well with demand in mainland China. You can read more about this in the 2024 sector study .
